How to select the perfect color for your room

Have you been flipping through magazines looking for interior design ideas? Whether you are searching for the designs or shower will designs, you have to tackle the task of finding the perfect color for your room at some point. Want to know how to do it?

Regardless of the decorating ideas and projects you want to mate, color is one of the most important. The tone it sets and creates the mood for your space. Color is inspired by trends and seasons. Just like your favorite cardigan from 1993, trends and seasons return; the actual color of your cardigan though, when it comes back, will be different. This is why so many people fear color. Once they get comfortable with it, a new shade takes its place.

Color changes with light. Sunlight, incandescent, halogen, xenon... Even a patch of white will change depending on the light source – turning from white, to a hint of yellow and even blue.

So how does one select a color that is timeless and true?

If you want a designer look, just like your wardrobe, you have to be open to modifying your surroundings with the same avant garde air. Sure tan, navy and gray have been around forever, but live outside of the box. Trust US.

A can of paint can transform a room in a way that anyone can afford. If you have a neutral palette of furnishings to work with, consider punching up the color and going brighter to modernize a space. Want a more traditional feel? Then select a color with less intensity.

Find inspiration in the colors in your wardrobe, a painting, nature or even your favorite food. Scour your favorite fashion and interior magazines and spot color trends that will work for you. Ask yourself, would I wear this color? Chances are, if the answer is "no," you won't be happy living in it either.

When you do narrow down your search, a couple of your wall favorites on your paint and let them sit for a day or two. This needs to be done because paint changes dramatically from wet to dry. Remember to look at the paint samples during the day, night and in every light. Once you select your perfect color, even if you aren't sure, until you stick with it finish accessorizing your room. After all, you can always wait until the next color trend comes through!
